Story vs Gameplay

In a game, story is only somewhat important. This is because if the game is like a story, it isn't a game and isn't fun even if it's story draws the person in and engages the person as in the end, its only a story and not a game.

On the other hand, however, all gameplay may / may not be good depending on the player. Some player's do not mind the fact that the game does not have a story. An example this is the game, King of Fighters 2002 or KOF2002 for short. Although this game does not have a story, there are many people that play this game frequently. They do not care about the fact that there is no story in this game. They just want to defeat anyone that challenges them.

However, some games that do not have a story are bad. Imagine the Final Fantasy series, if you take away the story in these games, what would the player do? The player would not know what to do in the game as if there wasn't a story in the game, the only thing to do in the game is to, pointlessly, keep battling enemies and level-up.

Concluding, my ideal game is one that mixes these two elements together well. One that is in such a way that without either the story or the gameplay, half the fun is gone. An example of such a game is Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy on the GameBoy Advance. This game has a calendar that has events planned on specific days and sudden events that occur in its story. Being a Yu-Gi-Oh! player, I enjoy its gameplay as well. Without its story, this game would be similar to another Yu-Gi-Oh! game on the same platform that I do not like due to its repetitive nature caused by a lack of storyline.

The History of Video Games

The birth of video games began from video arcades, PONG. PONG was the first video game to hit the market successfully. The game industry like any other industry has its ups and downs. In 1983, the video game industry crashed and caused many game companies to go bankrupt. One of the reasons for this was poor games. E.T. and Pac-Man were produced in such large quantities that there were more copies of these games than consoles.

The first video game I played was at a video arcade. I think it was Street Fighter II. I liked the fact that one needed to think fast and react to the opponent's movements and attack to win.

Munchkins

Munchkins is a card based, role-playing game. The objective of the game is to level-up to level 10. Once a player successfully levels-up to level 10, that player is declared the winner and the game ends.

This game contains equipment cards, curse cards, monster cards, treasure cards and power-up cards. To play, 2 piles of cards are set up. One pile contains all the treasure cards and the other pile contains all the other cards. At the start of the game, all players draw 2 cards from both piles to have 4 cards in their hand.

At the start of a player's turn, the player draws a card face-up from the non-treasure pile. If the drawn card is a monster, the player has to fight against it. A player can only battle 1 monster per turn. If it's a curse card, the player is affected by the curse immediately. If it's a class or race card, the player becomes the drawn class or race immediately unless he/she already has a class or race. In that case, he/she must decide if he/she wants to keep his/her current class or race or to become the new class or race. All other cards drawn are kept by the player. A player can only keep up to 5 cards in his/her hand at any one time unless the player is a dwarf or has a card that affects how many cards he/she can hold.

To defeat a monster, a player's level must be higher than the monster's. The player can power himself/herself up with equipment cards or with cards that have effects and can be used in combat. Curses can also be used either on the monster to weaken the monster or on the player to weaken the player by anyone. The player can use effects that he/she has from his/her class/race is any. If the said player is unable to defeat the monster, he/she is allowed to ask for help from another player. This other player can either accept and help the player or reject the player. If he/she accepts, he/she can ask for a reward for helping.

If the monster is defeated, the player takes a number of treasure card equal to the number that is stated on the card. If help was asked for, the player must give the promised amount of treasure cards to the helper. If the player was unable to defaet the monster, he/she is given the chance t run away. The player then rolls the dice. Upon rolling a 5 or a 6, the player successfully runs away from the monster and nothing bad happens to the player. However, if the player is unable to run away from the monster, the bad effects stated on the monster's card takes effect. If a player dies, his cards are taken by all players starting from his right.

My fav. game

my current favourite game is King of Fighters XI. KOF XI, for short, is a 2d fighting game. KOF XI can be played by up to 2 players simutanelously against each other. this game tests a player's reflex and mind in the sense that the fastest player is able to defend against the opponent's attacks and attack the opponent. combos are possible in this game and it is possible to combo another player from full health to zero health, though it invloves much skill.

this game is my current favorite because i find it to be fun.
